City.

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

So one of my favorite things in the parts of New England I’ve visited is the Porter Square T station. For one thing, it has the most crazy ridiculous awesome escalators. And the best public art: it’s got piles of gloves. Gloves scattered down the escalator rails. Gloves stuck in the floor. It fills the cockles of my heart with such joy, I can’t stand it. Except when the escalators are broken. Then I walk to the next stop, because that’s easier.

What is it?

Yes, that is Tang.

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

In an effort to drink things that aren’t coffee every now and then, I’ve been experimenting with beverages that come in powder form. Like Tang. Which is, unsurprisingly, sort of vile but also sort of wonderful. I mean, space juice! It has to be awesome, right? Anyway. This is my belated eighties childhood. I’m sorry, Mom. You did a really good job, and I appreciate it. Even if sometimes it might look like I’m totally screwing up every attempt you made to raise me right.

I’m thinking lemon juice and water might be the solution, though, because in fact I find this Tang stuff alarming. I’m pretty sure it’s not actually food at all, even if it does taste kind of amazing.

Bear?

I walked to work today, because I am too much of a wimp to bike and I’m tired of driving.

Swan, bike, duck.

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I swear, it’s actually a swan. If I was smart, I would’ve gotten a canada goose or two for scale; this bird was huge.

Also, I went biking for the first time in years. It was lovely. The bike mechanic/shop down the street from my place is completely wonderful. Not only is it open on Sunday, but the guy who runs it is just an absolute darling.

Another attempt at capturing the clouds

Given the sensitivity of the camera in question, or rather the lack thereof … Well, I think it’s rather nice. Obviously.

Here’s a question – mostly rhetorical – is it worth writing my anti-thesis? I finished the project, so maybe it is worth coming up with the words about why, and putting them together in a coherent manner. It might even be fun.

Union Square BVM

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

I admit it. I love wandering around Somerville, because there are BVMs of all kinds (bathtub BVMs, even). This one is just outside Union Square, near a place that sells antique radiators.

About time, I’d say.

This weekend was Open Studios, and a lot of people came through the place. I’d hung my cranes – remember that project? The anti-thesis, I think, at this point. It got a certain amount of face time with strangers (and friends).

After everyone left except a select (lucky) few, we took the stockpot outside and did this with them:

There. When I proposed this project in, what, 2006? Burning them was the final step. I think it’s done now. I might write about the significance this piece of work took on for me, but not tonight. Tonight, I will revel in the fact that I have a jar of ashes and an empty pot.

(Also, many thanks to Tim, Alex, and Robert for supplying pictures and video of the entire process.)
